Metzeler UK, Burton-on-Trent, September 5, 2014 – With a total score of 85/100, the METZELER SPORTEC™ M7 RR finished in first place on the road test section of the annual Performance Bikes tyre test. Testers particularly praised the tyre for its class leading turn-in and grip capabilities.
Conducted as a completely blind test by Performance Bikes Editor Matt Wildee and Road Tester John McAvoy, the test was carried out using a BMW S1000R in full Dynamic Pro mode, meaning there was minimal traction control, no anti-wheelie and no rear ABS. Matt took the first stint on the bike, scrubbing in the tyres from cold while John took the second stint. When the bike returned from its second stint, both the front and rear tyres had their temperature measured on the left and right sides as well as the centre.
Held in warm, dry conditions and with tyre pressures kept at 36psi, the course was made up of standard roads and consisted of fast, flowing A-roads, quick directional changes, heavy braking, roundabouts and bumpy B-roads.
The METZELER SPORTEC™ M7 RR came in with a score of 85/100, beating the Michelin Power Supersport, Bridgestone S20 Evo and the Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa. Both riders praised it for its turn-in, mid-corner and exit grip, overall concluding that it is “An excellent road tyre with class leading turn-in and grip”.
