I bought this as my first helmet at the start of 2020 when I decided I wanted to learn to ride. I went to a shop and tried on lots of different helmets, most of which didn't seem to suit me or were uncomfortable in my size and where the next size up wouldn't have been too loose.
When I put the HJC C90 on it felt right immediately, it was the right fit; snug but not skull crushingly tight and didn't wobble over my cranium when shaking my head side to side.
I also like the fact that it's a flip front design. I'm not as bad now but I found full face helmets incredibly claustrophobic when I fist started trying them on. Being able to put on the helmet with the face up helped a lot.
The flip down sun visor is a neat feature and is easy to use when on the bike and does a good job at reducing glare on sunny days. I'm not sure the vents are very effective, though. I seem to fog up my visor with my breath very easily even when on the move unless I leave the visor open slightly. That said, I'm sure they do help keep the old noggin cool on warmer days, in any case I leave them open all the time.
It's not the lightest or smallest shell and the weight does take a bit of getting used to - less noticeable when on the bike but is quite heavy when I first started using it.
Visibility is good, I have no complaints there; the edges of the visor aperture are visible in my peripheral vision but I've not yet found a helmet where this isn't the case.
My only other complaint is noise - it seems to produce quite a din with wind noise when on the bike at high speed. I don't ride over the posted speed limits, of course (genuinely, I don't) but from about 50mph and above wind noise is really quite obtrusive. Of course I haven't really used any other helmet in anger so for all I know it might be one of the quieter lids out there, but I write as I find.
Overall I'm pleased with what it does and how it does it especially given its price point and will carry on using it until my daughter steals it from me.
