The TCX Infinity 3 boot is aimed at the road rider who wants a bit of an ‘adventure’ look.
With its wrap-around ‘heat shield’ to protect the shin, the Infinity 3 has something of an off-road look, but this is essentially a road boot. This is not a boot in which you would venture off road unless, of course, you find yourself in the muddy stuff by accident! The target market for the TCX Infinity 3 is the adventure bike rider who almost never leaves the black stuff; and let’s face it, that’s most adventure bike owners! The waterproofing comes courtesy of Gore-Tex. Now, arguably, Gore-Tex is the best membrane, but the re-assuring thing about any product that is Gore-Tex equipped is that it has been approved by Gore. You simply cannot make a poor quality Gore-Tex product. And so one thing you can be sure of with the TCX Infinity 3 is that your feet are going to stay dry.
The chassis of the boot is a combination of suede and some kind of synthetic material like Lorica. The heat shield, as TCX call it, is largely aesthetic. Will it add much in terms of protection? probably not. Behind the panel is a padded tongue to ensure that comfort is not compromised. The shield flap fastens with Velcro, and this clearly is adjustable. But the main adjuster on the boot comes from the BOA-style, wire-wheel adjuster that sits just above the outer ankle. These systems have become very popular on motorcycle boots. They allow a lot of adjustability around the forefoot, but what makes these systems so popular is that they are so easy to use. No two ways about it; this is a boot that should accommodate most foot shapes and sizes. As far as protection is concerned, you get strengthened in the toe, ankle and heel areas. Inside the boot, there’s a removable Ortholite footbed.
